What this is
You are owed money, or a trader has sold you faulty goods or done poor work, and you want to bring the claim yourself. This pack takes you through the process in the order you will need it, from the first letter to collecting the money. It is written in plain English for people representing themselves, including sole traders and small businesses.
What is included
Nine documents, numbered in the order you use them:
- 00 Start here. What you get, the process in eight steps, a table of key dates and deadlines, fees at a glance, and one honest page on the limits of the pack.
- 01 Letter Before Claim. Two ready-to-fill templates: Template A (14-day letter for consumers and general claims) and Template B (30-day Letter of Claim for a business claiming a debt from an individual, with the enclosures the Debt Protocol requires), plus a 14-day notice before issue.
- 02 Particulars of Claim. Two templates (unpaid debt; faulty goods or poor services under the Consumer Rights Act 2015) with three interest variants and the statement of truth.
- 03 Interest calculator and Schedule of Loss. The formula, four worked examples with real numbers, the court-fee bands, and a Schedule of Loss template.
- 04 Form N1 walkthrough. Online or paper, box by box guidance for form N1 (10.26), and what happens after you issue.
- 05 Directions questionnaire (N180) and mediation. Section by section guidance for form N180, the strict deadline, and how to prepare for the compulsory mediation call.
- 06 Witness statement template. A statement layout, exhibit guidance, and how to get a witness to court.
- 07 Hearing bundle and evidence checklist. The evidence the court usually needs, a bundle index, a covering letter, hearing preparation, and the costs you can recover.
- 08 After the hearing. Setting aside a judgment you missed, appeals, and the ways to enforce a judgment, with forms and fees.
Who it is for
- Individuals and small businesses (including sole traders) in England and Wales who want to bring a claim for a sum of money of £10,000 or less against a person or business with an address in England or Wales.
- Typical claims: an unpaid invoice, an unpaid loan, a deposit not returned, a refund or repair costs for faulty goods or poor work.
Jurisdiction
England and Wales only, County Court, small claims track. It is not for Scotland or Northern Ireland.
What it is not
- It is not legal advice, and it is not a solicitor's service. Noverquis Ltd is not a law firm and is not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
- It does not guarantee any result. A court may reject all or part of a claim, and winning does not guarantee the defendant will pay.
- It is not for personal injury, road traffic accident, housing disrepair, harassment or unlawful eviction claims, claims against government departments, defending a claim made against you, or claims above £10,000.
- It does not cover claims by lenders under regulated credit agreements.
- It does not cover Scotland, Northern Ireland, or other countries.
- It does not include court forms. You download the current official forms (such as N1 and N180) free from GOV.UK. The pack tells you how to complete them.
- It is a snapshot of the law at 30 October 2026. We do not promise updates. Court rules, fees and forms change, so check the current position on GOV.UK.
